Unit 11 Reading Institutional Repositories

This article told of the development of university repositories which are a series of management and dissemination of digital materials offered to the community.  They facilitate enhanced access to scholarly content by empowering faculty.    These can encourage the exploration and adoption of new forms of scholarly communication.
Dangers that can exist but they can succeed because they are responsive to the needs of campus communities--they need to accept responsibility not exert control.
Failure can happen due to policy, management failure or incompetence or technical problems.
Institutional repositories will promote progress in development of infrastructure standards.

  3. rights documentation and management
Not all institutes will want to have or run a repository.  It can be a powerful idea that can serve as a change for the institute but can also address a number of needs.
