Week 3 Reading Linux

The history of Linux was interesting.  Not really knowing much about it, I was interested to see where it got it's roots and how it came to be.  i do remember the large computers that you had to write a program for--a class no one ever wanted to take.  It is amazing how much a small group of people who were dedicated to making computing more available and easy for everyone changed the way we use and view computers.
One of the more interesting points to me, was the fact of how many free downloadable programs there are in Linux but also how many people use them.  The fact that the software has been used by so many people and if there is a problem, how quickly the problems are found, exposed and rectified.
I have been using a Mac for a lot of years and it nice that there are some software downloads available for Mac users as well.

Lori,
I also found it interesting that the Linux software is open and rewritable. That aspect of the program makes it much easier to find issues and solve them quickly, whereas with programs such as Windows, bugs are stuck in the program until Microsoft decides to fix them. Having a program that is that open, completely free, and available to a variety of computers (i.e. Macs, pcs, etc) makes it an appealing choice for an operating program.
